PS4

on my bed at the end of the day
I will not dwell on fear or hatred
talking to God, I will thank and pray
and sleep in His rest protected

Notes from (9/4/1998) “A Psalm of Trust in the Evening”

Psalm 4:8 was given to me on a plaque by my grandmother. As a child I was very afraid of the dark. (Now I am only slightly so.) (And now, some 30 years later, not so much anymore!) And, anyway, it was a comfort to me to know that God was watching over me when I slept.

Fear can be a powerful tool of Satan. As a child, when my brother and I would have nightmares or be scared, our dad taught us to pray that God would send His angels to protect our house and that He would cast any demons out of the house. It always worked, and to this day I employ it.

This Psalm has a lot more to say at the end of the day. About looking back on God’s blessings, and about the state of the world and “Christian” example. But it is the last verse that speaks volumes to me.
