U2 Song Countdown Part 2 (60-46)

This month, I am looking at my personal ranking of U2 songs, based on the conversation I had with my son a while back. Eventually I might do a few essays on some of these songs, but here I might just occasionally give my typical one-line thought:

60. “Get Out of Your Own Way” (Songs of Experience)
A lot of U2 songs are like little sermons.

59. “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” (No Line On the Horizon)
Discipline needs to be balanced with spontinaity.

58. “So Cruel” (Achtung Baby)
Don’t confuse manipulation with love.

57. “City of the Blinding Lights” (How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb)
Success isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

56. “The Little Things That Give You Away” (Songs of Experience)
Integrity.

55. “The First Time” (Zooropa)
Grace and regret.

54. “Until the End of the World” (Achtung Baby)
A theology of betrayal.

53. “Red Flag Day” (Songs of Experience)
Don’t give in to fear.

52. “Zoo Station” (Achtung Baby)
I have been to Zoo Station.

51. “Red Hill Mining Town” (The Joshua Tree)
Such a sad truth.

50. “Stay (Faraway So Close!)” (Zooropa)
Intimacy is what we were made for, sin gets in the way.

49. “Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World” (Achtung Baby)
There is beauty in this broken world.

48. “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” (Songs of Innocence)
Music can lead us to truth, and God.

47. “Sweetest Thing” (Where the Streets Have No Name single)

46. “Love, Rescue Me” (Rattle and Hum)
We all long for salvation from our brokenness.
