Outline Isaiah 28-35 (from Motyer)

Six Woes, indicating God’s Purposes and Promises are Guaranteed (28-35)

Principles:

1a. Woe to Ephraim (Principal A)(28:1-29)
Rejection of God’s word and covenant leads to destruction containing God’s purposes.

1b. Woe to Ariel (Principal B)(29:1-14)
Saving acts of God in history do not change people. Further divine action is already planned.

1c. Woe to Those Who Hide Their Plans from God (Principal C) (29:15-24)
People think they are in control. But God is sovereign, and His purposes will work out spiritually morally and socially fulfilling what began in Abraham establishing a truly renewed people.

Applications:

2a. Woe to Stubborn Children (Application A)(30:1-33)
God’s people look to Egypt rejecting His word.
However, God’s long-term purposes, and God’s immediate purposes, are coming to pass.

2b. Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt (Application B)(31:1-32:20)
Divine salvation is better than worldly power. The future holds a perfect kingdom.
History will repeat in overthrow and transformation.

2c. Woe to the Destroyer (Application C)(33:1-35:10)
Evil people seem to rule, but divine sovereignty remains. The perfect kingdom will come.
The Enemy will be destroyed. The Redeemed will gather His people in Zion.
