when I think about David
the way you gave him power
saved him from his enemies
ruled through his chosen kingdom
I don’t see room for any
games of whataboutism
place for using the system
no place to pick the lesser
of two evils as the good
instead, I will seek your Kingdom
you have died for my enemies
my aim is not protection or power
I will say like David:
I shall be satisfied with your likeness

(Notes from 9/17/1998) “Questions”
Here is a question I need to answer with more study: How do the Psalms for protection against the wicked (17, 13, 12, 10, 7, 5, 4, and 3 so far) apply today? Not that there is not a need to be protected. But how can we call down such judgement on our enemies today? Are we not to love them? Jesus died for them.
Another thing. Many times today I find that the danger and attacks lie not among “the wicked” but among the “church members.” Can they be the wicked?
Try to answer tomorrow.
Update:
Wow. It is fun looking back on notes from 30 years ago. Seeing the stuff I wrestled with then. Remembering the challenges and problems I’ve been led through. To myself of those days, I would say, “you will figure this stuff out. It is not something the church hasn’t already worked through.” However, I would also tell myself to buckle up. The American Church was getting ready to take a slow ride down the slippery slope of compromise and power. Sad to see.
