THE Servant Song (Isaiah 52:13-53:12)

This passage, written over 700 years before Jesus, is astounding. Even if you don’t believe in the ability of Isaiah to prophecy the Babylonian Exile, and date it at 600 years before Christ, you have a problem. Because it was certainly around and complete over 100 years before Christ, based on the Great Isaih scroll found at Qumran.

The problem you are confronted with in this five-stanza poem is the shocking message it delivers. God’s plan was to send His divine Servant, the Messiah, to take the sins of the world upon Himself. He was going to be rejected and killed, and sacrificed like a lamb, sprinkling His blood upon the people, atoning for their sin. This is the message that has been around for nearly 3,000 years. Overlooked and missed by so many, it is exactly what Jesus did. When He explained it to His disciples after His resurrection it changed everything.

One of the most quoted Old Testament passages in the New Testament, it deserves a deep dive…
