Oracle 8: Evening (Arabia) Isaiah 21:13-17
This brief oracle against Arab peoples south of Judah is a somewhat cryptic call for people to help refugees fleeing conflict in the area. Along with the other oracles and later visions in this section of Isaiah’s message, this word contributes to the overall continuing message: those who trust in the nations for their safety will ultimately suffer along with those nations. No earthly power can provide a guarantee of safety. It is folly to rely on nations, kings, or worldly power for one’s safety.
