PS1

happiness
is not in the crowd
with the cool
self-sufficient and proud
the humble
is much like a tree
by a pool
secure and carefree
the haughty
will fall, they won’t stand
God only knows
the way to the land

(Notes from 9/1/1998) “A Psalm of Wisdom”

V1. Not a list of laws or standards to follow, just a simple statement of what not to be like. Avoid wicked counsel, don’t sin, or scoff. This psalm is not a legalistic religious document.

V2. Instead: Delight in the words of YHWH. Meditate on His law, day and night. Knowing God’s word supplies us with the things we need to know to please God. Ethical living is 99% doing God’s will. The other 1% is trusting Him to work out the details. (Not sure where I came up with those percentages. I might adjust them today as I see trust a much bigger piece of the puzzle!)

V3. Living thus in God’s will brings true life, rich and full, like a tree with a good supply of water, unlike the drought we’ve been in this summer. Prosperous and successful life. (I was in the Dallas Metroplex area then.)

V4. The wicked life is just the opposite. It is dry and dead.

V5. “Stand in the Judgment”? Does this refer to judging with God?

V6. There are two roads. The choice is easy.
