Last Supper Preparations (Luke22:7-13)
This passage almost seems superfluous. Jesus tells the disciples to prepare the Passover meal. Due to the danger of the Jewish leaders seeking His death, things had to be done quietly and without raising attention. The Gospels give us these details because they are surprising to the disciples. Jesus gives them detailed instructions: find a man carrying water, follow him, ask the owner of the house he goes to for the room. Either Jesus knew something supernaturally, or He had made arraignments without them knowing. It doesn’t matter much either way. The point was that Jesus’ instructions needed to be trusted and followed.
Today, people try to apply this truth by looking for the signs and instructions. The problem is that we don’t tend to have detailed instructions from Jesus for our daily decisions. That doesn’t stop some from looking for them. “Which job opportunity should I take?” “Which relationship should I pursue?” “Should I go right, or left at the next intersection?”
That last one makes the whole thought seem silly. However, it is usually so at all levels of consequence. We have to make decisions and trust that God will use them. It is rare that God will instruct His people step-by-step.
That said, we do have clear instructions to trust and follow. The behaviors that are acceptable, and those that God does not approve of. Do good, avoid evil. And Jesus did command us all to be His witnesses. To tell the story. To make disciples. When in doubt, default to this. As you go about your life, share what Jesus has done and is doing.
