Nations Gathering, Gathered (Isaiah 49:22-26)
The people of God, who would be in exile after Isaiah’s time, would be returned from exile by the very captors that held them. The Nations would bring the nation back. This is an irony, an astounding and unexpected predicted proof, and God’s power of creation, history, and humanity!
Looking back from our perspective today, we can see the many ways this surprising prophecy has been fulfilled.
Israel was returned to the promised land by Cyrus, the ruler of Persia.
Israel was returned to power in the holy land by the United Nations.
Most astoundingly, the nations have come to God, through the work of the Servant, the true Israel. More people have believed in and followed Jesus than any other figure in history. He has changed the world through, not just His example and teaching, but by His death and resurrection.
What is more astounding? That Isaiah saw all of this over a century before it began, or that it happened at all?
