Exile Explained (Isaiah 50:1-3)
If the covenant has been broken so severely that exile resulted, is this the end? Has God’s plan and covenant failed?
Where is the certificate of divorce? There is none. Even though the children have been sold into slavery, there is still hope of redemption! Why is there no new man to buy the nation out of slavery? There is no one else. God is the only hope. The Servant is the answer to this question. God will rescue His people from the slavery of their own rebellion.
God can do this seemingly impossible task. He can have grace and show mercy while still holding evil and sin in serious judgement. He is love and justice. This poetic meaning of the cross will be the truth upon which creation and history fold over.
If He can create the universe and cause it to run, or even break the laws of reality without breaking reality, He can save humanity in their sin without ignoring sin…
