Idols Exposed (Isaiah 46:1-13)

Isaiah takes another dig at counterfeit gods. This time it is specifically the idols of Babylon. They carry their gods about, but YHWH has carried His people. They go into captivity, but YHWH freed His people. They are made by men who worship them, but YHWH has made humanity to worship Him. They are powerless, He is all powerful.

Despite their history and the things they have seen as a people, Israel has turned to false gods as well. They put their faith in kings, nations, and worldly powers rather than God. Today, the people of God do the same things again and again. Despite the salvation we have experienced, we turn to political figures and parties. Too many of God’s followers have trusted false Christ after false Christ, when God asks His people to trust Him alone. We are enticed by worldly powers. Especially when they promise us privileges and protect us from boogeymen they have conjured in our imaginations.

The message of the bible in general, and Isaiah in particular, condemns this sort of idolatry and embrace of antichrists.
