Israel Assured (Isaiah 41:8-20)

Comfort, my people, your hardships are over.

God reminds Israel that they are His chosen servant. His people. He has called them and gathered them. He has disciplined them, but He will not abandon them. Those who rise up against God’s chosen are contending with God. This is not some magic guarantee that Israel will never fail in its purposes. After all, we see Israel itself set up against God at times. However, no one will ever succeed against the faithful remnant of God’s chosen people.

God tells Jacob not to fear. He is their helper and redeemer. No one can stand against Him.

God tells the poor and needy, that He will answer their prayers. He will provide water and cause the wilderness to bloom and grow. Not only that, but He will also orchestrate history to bend to His purposes. The nations will see and understand.
